CHARACTER INFO

Character: Cyril
Canon: Fire Emblem Three Houses (Verdant Wind route)
Age: 19

Background Information: Wiki Link!

Personality: Cyril is a very serious young man. If he has a job, he makes sure he does it to the best of his ability. He is not one to ask for help and is loath to accept it when offered. He will ask for help if he needs it, but he asks that the person helping him keep it quiet out of pride. He’s fiercely independent, doesn’t have much of a sense of humor, and has never really had much in the way of tact, and if asked directly, will say what he’s thinking. A good example of this is when Manuela asks him why she can't find a man, and he gives her a list.

Loyalty to Lady Rhea is Cyril’s primary motivation. He is loyal to her above all else, and when the empire captures her, he guards her things almost jealously. And despite the fact she’s gone, he never goes through her things. Although he was never taught to read, so going through her books wouldn’t benefit him. Still, even if he could, there is little chance he would take the opportunity to do so. He’s also very loyal to Shamir, the woman who taught him how to shoot a bow, but between the two, he'll always choose Rhea.

His loyalty, while often a virtue, can also be a flaw, as he can be blindly loyal to Rhea. In an alternative route, when Lady Rhea sets fire to a city, Cyril doesn’t question her at all. As mentioned earlier, his lack of tact and fierce independence can make him appear cold to others. It takes dedication to get through the wall he’s built up around himself.

As an Alymyran in Fodlan, he's often viewed with suspicion, and that is a major reason why he keeps others at a distance. While he identifies as Alymyran, he lacks any patriotic fervor and is highly critical of his memories of the government. He views himself as Lady Rhea's attendant first and foremost. If he had any nationality, he would likely claim to be part of the Garreg Mach Monastery. If Rhea dies, he will essentially see himself as a stateless person unless convinced otherwise (this depends on his affection levels with certain characters).

Another primary reason this wall was built up is that he’s a war orphan, conscripted into being a child soldier, who was then captured by the enemy and forced into indentured servitude by the Goneril family. All of this before he turned fourteen. The game is unclear about how long he’s been serving Rhea, but I headcanon it to be at least two years. While others might view his service to Rhea as just more slavery dressed up better, he is very vocal about how he chose his duties, and she lets him pretty much do as he pleases.

Despite not being good with people, he's pretty skilled with animals, as evidenced by his proficiency in horseback riding and flying. Part of his duties is to clean the stables, so he gets pretty close to the horses and wyverns stabled there, helping take care of them. If not recruited, he is generally shown to be riding a wyvern with some skill.

Without Rhea here, Cyril is likely to stick close to people he knows, like Claude/Khalid and Sylvain, because he's not a people person and doesn't really know how to make friends. Also, since Rhea is alive from the route I'm bringing him from, he's content to know she's fine even if he's away. Thus, he'll resign himself to this new world and what it has to offer. There's always wood to chop and flowers to clean. He knows he'll find himself a niche to fill.

Abilities & Inventory: A Brave Axe and Brave Bow, the second-best non-unique weapons in the game, as an enemy in routes he's not recruited, they're what he uses. Cyril is a talented archer, and the hours of chopping wood have made him handy with an axe. He’s also a gifted flyer, but I’m opting not to have a wyvern brought in, as I headcanon he never owned a wyvern, just rode one belonging to Seteth. (Also, that’s a wish thing.)

ARMADA SELECTION

Paladins

Cyril would be a Paladin. Part of this is because I have Nico as a Corsair and would like to have one of each. Another reason would be his fierce loyalty to an Archbishop in his canon, even if he himself is areligious, and in multiple endings becomes a Knight of Seiros, which is affiliated with the Church of Seiros, which makes Paladin like, just lacking the holy aspect.
